GHS TRACK 2020 & Past Athletes

TRACK NOTES: LAST UP DATE 5-17-20

Remember that the only bad performance is when you did not try your hardest! On the track and in the Great Game of Life place nobody above you and place nobody below you. Over come your fears and be brave. Your one thought when you enter a competition should be to do your best. If you win, win humbly and with gratitude. And if you lose give praise and congratulations to the person that beat you. Treat everyone in the exact same manner that you would want to be treated and make no exceptions this rule. This will give you good karma.

In my 37 years of coaching the thing that truly matters most to me is the friends that I make along the way, and the privilege it is to be a part of your life.

- Speaking of  jobs, if you have a job and need me to talk to your employer please let me know. ..MY PHILOSOPHY IS THAT I WOULD RATHER HAVE A LITTLE OF YOU, THAN NONE AT ALL….. Therefore I am very flexible in terms of allowing you to pursue these other areas of interest.

                              EDUCATION = FREEDOM!

-IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO EDUCATE YOURSELF YOU ARE SENTENCING YOURSELF TO A LIFE OF POVERTY AND QUITE POSSIBLY INCARCERATION. JAIL-PRISON OR WORST OF ALL A SELF-MADE PRISON. A LIFE WITH NO MEANING.

Winning and Losing: I have been coaching and competing in Track and Field for the past 37 years. I train my athletes in the same manner that I train myself. There is no guess work involved. If your son or daughter has the ability, and they follow our program, then they will be successful. For the most part Track Meets are not like Football or Basketball games. For example if my 1600 runner can run 4:28, and the other team’s runner’s best is a 5:01. We can pretty much count on winning the 1600. The funny thing is with Track is that it is not the 1st and 2nd place finisher’s that determine the meet. It usually comes down to the 3rd, 4th and 5th  place points. So everyone truly is important. SPECIAL NOTE: The Track Team is like one big family, and everybody plays role. Some of my most favorite athletes hardly ever competed, but they were very positive people, who were always cheering on their teammates, and helping out wherever they were needed.

PLAYING TIME: In Track and Field there is no playing time. Each Athlete is able to compete in up to four events (A relay counts as an event). Unfortunately we are limited to the number of athletes can compete in a given meet. All Track and Field events are limited to our top 4 athletes. I can add up to 4 exhibitions athletes.
Track and Field is very objective in terms of who competes and who does not. I take the best 4 athletes per event based on their individual times and distances, and that’s’ who gets to compete in the Varsity meets. B/MOD-MEETS: You will see that there are 5 B/MOD-Meets listed on your schedule. These meets are unlimited entrees, and designed for our more inexperienced athletes. So at the very least your child can count on performing in at least 5 meets this season. However, I will do my very best to get your child into a meet as often as I am able.

The weather: during early Track season can be brutal. –Your child should come to practice every day prepared to go outside.  They should bring sweats, a hat, jacket, and gloves to all practices and meets. Also it is a good idea to invest in some cheap rain gear (Wal-Mart has some for as little as $15.00) for our home and away meets. Also they should bring a small amount of money, Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, sports bars, bananas, drinks, and sun screen.

INVITATIONALS AND THE WEATHER:  If the weather on the day of an invitational is cold and rainy, even though the event may still be held, we will not be participating. I have never seen anything good come from this type of environment. The risk of injury and sickness is great, and the probability of a good performance is poor. I will post track notes on my website at heaventown.net. Click on the GHS Track Tab, and on my facebook page (Mark Salvatore Pitifer) For all away regularly scheduled league meets I will have no say in the matter.

HEALTH FORMS : REMEMBER TO SEE THE NURSE SOMETIME THIS WEEK TO MAKE SURE SHE HAS ALL OF YOUR PAPER WORK!

AS FAR AS HEALTHY LIVING IS CONCERNED: REMEMBER YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT & HOW YOU SLEEP! NEGLECT EITHER OF THESE AND YOU WILL SUFFER! TRY TO GO TO BED EARLY EVERY NIGHT. EAT 3 WELL BALANCED MEALS A DAY. TAKE SHORT NAPS LIKE A CAT AND EAT EVERY PIECE OF FRUIT THAT YOU COME ACROSS. THIS WILL SERVE YOU WELL.

THE CREED-If you’re using Alcohol or Drugs stop. If you're having sex stop. Go back to living a younger, less complicated life styles. If you want to be something special than start living special. If you want to be champion than you can’t just do what everybody else is doing. Separate yourself on the track and in life. Be the best you can be your youth only comes along once in a lifetime. Don’t waste it by being wasted!

-Wearing jewelry will get you disqualified! On meet days leave your jewelry at home! Also you are not allowed to have cell phones, cameras, or iPods with you near the track or field event areas. For example if your phone rings during an event, and an official hears it, you will be disqualified!

I AM ALWAYS MORE CONCERNED WITH THE PEOPLE THAT YOU BECOME, FAR MORE THAN HOW MANY EVENTS YOU WIN. THEREFORE, AS A SPECIAL FAVOR TO MY ATHLETES AND PARENTS I GIVE YOU 24/7 ACSSESS TO ME FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. WHENEVER YOU NEED HELP WITH THE GAME OF LIFE JUST CALL 315-759-1293.

SPECIAL NOTE:  We begin each practice with a light jog and dynamic stretching. This helps get your body warm and ready to compete/train, and protects you from injuries. However, during our track meets, especially Invitational’s,  there are often large gaps of time between events. Therefore, it is very important that you go through another warm-up starting at least 10 minutes before you have to compete. You should also go through a series of stretches and light jogging at the end of every workout and competition. This is called a warm-down, and it is an important part of remaining injury free.
